upSUMMARY

Pierre Barrère has received Linnaeusís letter dated 18 September (29 September n.s.) and thanks Linnaeus for inscribing him in his excellent book.

Barrère would be eternally grateful if Linnaeus could send his smaller works and the Hortus Cliffortianus, which he greatly admires.

Barrère wants Linnaeus to forward a packet with the French address à monsieur Monsieur Balalud in Paris. This can be done through the French legate or via Bordeaux under the French address à monsieur Monsieur Jaques Blain. Barrère hopes that Linnaeus will inform him about the advancement of that.

Barrère is busy ending his book about the American journey (his journey to the French Guyana), and an epitome of the observed natural history objects and plants. He would have sent all this, but it will be edited very soon. For the moment he sends very few (due to heavy and not usual rains) plants from Perpignan and Spain. He will send some more, and even more rare things later. He does not send any American seeds since they are too old.

The Portugueses and Spaniards are not very familiar to botany, physics, anatomy etc. Barrère only knows one person, the Catalonian Jacob Salvador, an experienced botanist and a dear friend, who died recently.
