Dated 16 Nov. stil. nov. 1744.. Sent from Stuttgart (Germany) to Uppsala (Sweden). Written in Latin.

Viro Illustri,
D[omino] D[octori] CAROLO LINNAEO,
Professori Regio et botanico celeberrimo,
S[alutem] D[icit] P[lurimam]
D[ominus] Johann[es] Albert[us] Gesnerus,
Ser[enissimi] Duc[is] W[ur]t[en]b[ur]g[ensisKarl Eugen, Duke of Würtemberg
(1728-1793). German.
consil[iarius] et Medic[inae] ordinarius.

Maxima quidem impatientia, frustrata tamen spe, hucusque responsionem ad postremas meas litteras, cum quibus Stuttgardiam redux semina copiosa ad TE, vir illustris, misi, expectavi.[1]

Anxius haereo, an forsan valetudo adversa vel alia gravia impedimenta memoriam meam apud TE deleverint. Quantum in me fuit, promissis steti et tertia vice semina misi.

Swedish.
, sicut in priori parte feci, laudandi destituar.

Semper me paratum et promptum invenies.

Swedish. Reigned 1720-1751. Married to
Ulrika Eleonora.
Residenti KönigKönig, Johan Fredrik (Johann
Friedrich)
(1690-1759). Swedish.
Post-commissary in Hamburg.
transmittendas tradat. Vale, Vir Illustris, et mei haud plane obliviscere.

Dabam Stuttgardiae die 16 Nov[embris] stil[i] nov[i] 1744.

[address] Monsieur / Monsieur le Docteur / Linnaeus Professeur / Royal et Botaniste / tres celebre a / Upsal.

upSUMMARY

Johann Albrecht Gesner is frustrated because he has heard nothing from Linnaeus, despite having sent seeds on three occasions. He knows that Linnaeus has received the first and second parcels, but he does not know for certain about the third.

Linnaeus has not yet sent Gesner any minerals. The second part of Gesnerís account on cobalt will therefore have to appear next spring without any Swedish specimens.
The letter will be sent via Johan Fredrik König.
