Dated MDCCXLVI die XVIII Decembris. Sent from Rostock (Germany) to Uppsala (Sweden). Written in Latin.

upSUMMARY

Ernst Friedrich BurchardBurchard, Ernst Friedrich
(1724-1749). German. Doctor of
medicine, Rostock. Correspondent of
Linnaeus.
asks Linnaeus not to be surprised to get a letter from a stranger, but Burchard has long been trying to find an opportunity to contact Linnaeus and to pay him his respects.

Some time earlier, a friend had told Burchard that he was going to study at Uppsala University, and then, with some hesitation, Burchard had taken the opportunity and written this letter to express his reverence and gratitude to Linnaeus. He asks for permission to consult Linnaeus in difficulties in his work, and he encloses copies of some recent works, which he hopes will be followed by many more.
