Quem edo coactus Horti nostri Indicem, hujus Te libentissime facio participem, cum, ut Venerationem, qua te suscipio, testificer, tum, ut opportunitatem me meaque Tibi studia commendandi, Tuumque demerendi favorem, arripiam, tum denique, ut Tuam super hoc Catalogo opinionem mecum amice libereque communicares.

Quam magni autem Te faciam semper, quantaque apud me in laude sis propter eximiam Tuam eruditionem & supra humanam pene incredibilemque in rebus naturalibus & diligentiam & perspicaciam, coram declarare, animi Tui candor Tuusque pudor vetat.

Methodum hanc, ut alias, vitiorum prorsus expertem minime esse, non equidem ignoro; imo non nulla committere de industria, partim observationum copia sufficienti destitutus, partim temporis coactus penuria debui. Nosti probe & omnium quidem optime, Botanicorum Princeps, quot & quanta in hac scientia Cimmeriis, ut ajunt, tenebris obvoluta lateant, etiam nunc, quum tantam Tute iis lucem adfudisti, quae forte dies vel per Te unum revelabit, etsi naturae termini quam difficillime definiantur. Quae enim nobis ad detegenda naturae arcana natus in historia naturali largitus et prorsus stupenda, spem faciunt, fore, ut brevi plura adhuc & si pote majora eruas, in primis, ut exspectatam diu, fervideque desideratam Philosophiam botanicam in lucem publicam emittas. Quod o utinam eveniat brevi! Vale prosperaque, semper sanitate utere fruere, mei numquam inmemor!

Wachendorff knows that there are errors in his method. However, he has not had sufficient plant material to examine and there is always the lack of time.

Wachendorff entreats Linnaeus to publish Philosophia botanica Linnaeus, Carl Philosophia
botanica, in qua explicantur fundamenta
botanica cum definitionibus partium,
etc.
