upSUMMARY

Linnaeus thanks Erik Gustaf LidbeckLidbeck, Erik Gustaf
(1724-1803). Swedish. Professor of
natural history and economy at Lund.
Studied under Linnaeus. Accompanied
Linnaeus as secretary on his
Västgöta journey in 1746.
Correspondent of Linnaeus.
for his latest sending: the plant, the seeds, the flintstones.

Linnaeus reports that the rare plant is simply #533 in Flora SvecicaLinnaeus, Carl Flora Svecica,
exhibens plantas per regnum Sveciae
crescentes, systematice cum differentiis
specierum, synonymis autorum, nominibus,
incolarum, solo locorum, usu
pharmacopaeorum
(Leiden 1745).

. It had been ordered from Spain. No medical practitioner in Stockholm had recognized it, but it is well-known for its aromatic smell and as a herb in the kitchen. It is famous as lithontriptica, and its power is equal to that of #540.

Among the seeds are also some of Digitalis Canariensis, a species of Gesneria. It is rather rare.

Linnaeus advises Lidbeck to gather as much knowledge about Silices as possible.

Linnaeus will try to be able to employ a good secretary, if it is possible.

Linnaeus invites Lidbeck to come and visit him during the autumn.
