upSUMMARY

Linnaeus thanks Erik Gustaf LidbeckLidbeck, Erik Gustaf
(1724-1803). Swedish. Professor of
natural history and economy at Lund.
Studied under Linnaeus. Accompanied
Linnaeus as secretary on his
Västgöta journey in 1746.
Correspondent of Linnaeus.
for the trouble he had had with the bottles.

Linnaeus asks Lidbeck to dissuade all those who are interested in accompanying them on their journey to Skåne, and especially the son [Linnaeus refers to Anders Nordencrantz the YoungerNordencrantz the Younger, Anders
(1738-1762). Swedish. Son of Anders
Nordencrantz. Student in Uppsala in
1751.
] of the Chief of the National Board of Trade [Anders NordencrantzNordencrantz, Anders
(1697-1772). Swedish. Chief of the
National Board of Trade
[Kommerskollegium].
]. If they just arrive two persons together, they will easily find accommodation in rectories and with the nobility, but if they are many, it will be difficult for their hosts to give them food, lodgings, horses etc.

Linnaeus should like to go via Örebro and Vadstena directly to Skåne but return through Östergötland. On their way out, there will be just remnants of winter to see in Östergötland.

In addition, it is difficult to pass Kolmården and Hohlwägen [Holavägen or Holvägen] during that time.

Allowance for expenses has been asked for at the King and CouncilThe King and Council,
Swedish. Kungl. Maj:t.
by “His Royal Highness” [Linnaeus presumably refers to Fredrik IFredrik I, (1676-1751).
Swedish. Reigned 1720-1751. Married to
Ulrika Eleonora.
], where Linnaeus has also asked for a sum to have a secretary with him. It will be easier that way. In the deep mud of Skåne you often need four horses.

Linnaeus is planning to go about April 12 so they will reach Skåne, for example Kristianstad and Lund, in eight or twelve days if they are lucky.
