Dum per lustrum jam iter ad exteros paravi, circumstantiis sensim obicem ponentibus, fama tua, Celeberrime Domine, multoties stimulum addidit Cupienti. Tu itaque jam in malam haud accipias partem, quod hisce negotia tua ut ut gravissima interpellem. Lubenter namque a te rescirem, Celeber[rime] Domine, quaecunque in re medica per aestatem proximam agentur inter Musas Upsalienses, ut inde statuam, jam iter moliens, tempore vero circumscriptus non adeo largo. Optarem quippe quamplurimum, ut felicitas mihi contingeret Vestras adeo inclytas invisendi Musas, Botanices, Historiae nat[uralis] et Mineralogiae amore non nihil fascinatus. Quod ad hanc enim adtinet satis illustrem orbi literato sese reddidit Doctiss[imus] Prof[essor] Valerius.

Calamum ut adriperem tua, Celeber[rime] Domine, fecit humanitas, studiumque peregrinis exhibitum, virtutes nemini nec mihi ignotae, quamvis Tibi ignoto. Ceterum memet quam humillime Tibi commendo, fausta quaevis Tibi adprecans. Salutat Te illustris Buchwaldus Noster propediem scripturus.

has been preparing travels abroad and often wanted to include a visit to Linnaeus in that activity. He would like to learn from Linnaeus what is going on in medicine and sciences in Uppsala. It is Linnaeusís well-known friendliness towards foreign guests that makes Ascanius dare to approach him. More specifically, he asks if it would be possible to visit Uppsala University during the next summer. His main interests are medicine, botany, natural sciences and mineralogy. Ascanius refers to Johan Gottschalk WalleriusWallerius, Johan Gottschalk
(1709-1785). Swedish. Professor of
chemistry at Uppsala.
