upSUMMARY

Linnaeus has got a Royal decision in favour of the term ”amfibier” [Amphibia], so now, the word is accepted in Swedish.

Linnaeus wants to see the treatise by Louis Guillaume Le MonnierLe Monnier, Louis Guillaume
(1717-1799). French. Physician and
naturalist. Professor of botany at the
Jardin des plantes in Paris. Personal
physician of Louis XV. Correspondent of
Linnaeus.
[Linnaeus refers to the Observations d’histoire naturelleLe Monnier, Louis Guillaume

méridionales de France, pendant

(Paris, 1744).
].

As to Gustaf Jacob CarlbohmGustaf Jacob, Carlbohm
(1731-1758). Swedish. Linnaeus’s
student.
, Bäck has no part in the issue. Somebody else will have to tell Linnaeus what Carlbohm intends to defend [Linnaeus refers to Censura medicamentorum simplicium vegetabiliumLinnaeus, Carl Censura

], and then Linnaeus will be neither amused nor afraid of anything. Bäck will see it when the disputation comes, and then it is too late to do anything.

Johan IhreIhre, Johan (1707-1780).
Swedish. Philologist. Professor of Latin
and later of eloquence and political
science at Uppsala.
is said to be appointed as teacher of the prince [Karl XIIIKarl XIII, (1748-1818).
Swedish. Prince. Son of King Adolf
Fredrik and Queen Lovisa Ulrika, brother
of Gustav III and Sofia Albertina.
]. It is strange that Bäck knows nothing about it.

Nils Rosén von RosensteinRosén von Rosenstein, Nils
(1706-1773). Swedish. Physician
and professor of medicine. Colleague of
Linnaeus at Uppsala. The founder of
modern pediatrics. Correspondent of
Linnaeus.
and Linnaeus are better now.

When you have a war fought with words, the battles will not be bloody, since you have dirt as ammunition.

Linnaeus has had several reports about the cattle disease, and he should like to show them to Tursen [Erland TursénTursén, Erland
(1722-1777). Swedish. Student of
Linnaeus, the first veterinary surgeon
in Sweden.
]. However, the postage will be expensive.

Linnaeus asks Bäck not to go to Ulriksdal but to remain in Stockholm.

Linnaeus asks who will become professor of history [it was Carl Fredrik GeorgiiGeorgii, Carl Fredrik
(1715-1795). Swedish. Professor of
history, Uppsala.
].

Linnaeus asks Bäck if anything has been heard about the medical positions in Åbo and the other one in Finland.

P.S. Linnaeus explains that he encloses something that must be a kind of nutmeg. If he knew the kind of Nux myristica, he would be able to make a better guess.
