will make best possible use of the knowledge Linnaeus has bestowed upon him, but, so far, he has nothing of interest to report. On his arrival in Lisbon, in mid-September, the landscape was scorched and barren. Thus, during his journey in late October and early November in Portugal and Spain, he did not collect any plants at all, partly because of his travelling companions and attacks of ague. received 10-12 species of East Indian birds that would be worth sending to Ulriksdal or Drottningholm. In Lisbon Scheidenburg saw lions, tigers, turtle doves, and an Algerian pigeon, somewhat bigger than other species, with hard wing-like feathers at their feet.
