with an attached letter to Linnaeus, which Manetti asked Büchner to forward [[this letter has not come down to us]. Büchner seizes this opportunity to renew the contact with Linnaeus, to tell Linnaeus how much he owes him and to hear news of Linnaeusís health etc. Accordingly, Büchner sends Manettiís letter at once, and he adds greetings and publications from friends and colleagues in Halle, and he hopes that it will reach Linnaeus within a short time. The publications are partly meant to illustrate how important Systema naturae, 10th editionLinnaeus, Carl Systema

is for their work. Büchner had planned to send this earlier, but he had had too much to do to get it ready. Among the projects that have taken his time, Büchner mentions a catalogue of the library of the Halle Academy, and a copy of that, meant for Linnaeus, had been given the year before to someone who was on his way to Sweden and Uppsala. Büchner also has to supervise the printing of the Acta of the Academy. Büchner asks Linnaeus to understand that it is not due to negligence or ingratitude that Büchner has not written earlier.
