Wälborne Herr Archiator

Begge de Commissioner Herr Archiatorn behagat mig updraga har jag genast fulbordat, neml[igen] med brefwets öfwerlemnande till statsministern grefwe St. Florentin, samt de böckers inköpande som Herr Archiatorn herifrån åstundar. Och som jag nu öfwersender de sistnämndes med en skepps lägenhet, innelyckte uti en annan bokCommission som min broder rixrådet mig updragit; så har jag den ähran att på en gång aflägga besked om både det ena och det andra. Herr Archiatorn behagade således adressera sig til min broder som lärer öfwerlemna böckerna så snart skepparen til Stockholm ankommer, hwilcket i innewarande sommar ske lärer, medan han wid slutet af denna månad, täncker begifwa sig ifrån Rouën. Wid detta tilfälle får jag äfwen yttra min fägnad öfwer den utmärckta heder och wälförtiente destination som Herr Archiatorn här i landet wederfarits. Jag tager derutinnan det icke allenast såsom Swensk utan ock såsom warande Herr Archiatorn ifrån ungdommen på det högsta förbunden. Om detta tänckesätt hoppas jag och Herr Archiatorn lärer wara fulkommeligen öfwertygad så wäl som om den oföränderliga tilgifwenhet med hwilcken jag har den ähran att framhärda.

tells Linnaeus that he has performed the two tasks that Linnaeus had asked him to do. He has forwarded Linnaeusís letter to Louis, count of Saint Florentin and afterwards duke of La VrilliereLouis, count of Saint Florentin and
afterwards duke of La Vrilliere,

Kingís household in 1749, a minister of
state in 1751.
[this letter, presumably an answer to the countís letter to Linnaeus from 1 December 1762Letter L6051, has not come down to us ] and he has bought the books that Linnaeus wanted. Scheffer is sending the books by ship together with several other books that his brother [Carl Fredrik SchefferScheffer, Carl Fredrik
(1715-1786). Swedish. Count, diplomat,

by the physiocrats in France. Brother of

Linnaeus.
] had asked for. Linnaeus should approach Schefferís brother about the books, which he will give Linnaeus when the ship arrives in Stockholm. This must be sometime during the summer of 1763, as the ship will leave Rouen at the end of March. Scheffer is very glad at the high esteem in which Linnaeus is held in France. Then, he acts not only as a Swede but also as a friend of Linnaeusís since his youth. Scheffer hopes Linnaeus believes him, not only in this, but also in his profound devotion to Linnaeus.
