Domenico VandelliVandelli, Domenico (1735-1816).
Italian. Physician and botanist. Left
for Portugal in 1764, where he was a
professor at the university of Coimbra.
He was the founder of Ajuda botanical
garden in Lisboa and of the Coimbra
botanical garden, where he was also the
first director (1773-1791).
Correspondent of Linnaeus.
had written to Linnaeus a short time earlier [Vandelli to Linnaeus 28 December 1763Letter L3336], but as he had received specimens of natural paper found near the city of Cortona, he hastens to send Linnaeus a sample of that. The place where it had been found is an ordinary field, which had recently been flooded by water. Vandelli is not quite sure about the nature of the paper (vegetable or mineral) and asks for Linnaeusís opinion on it.

Vandelli reminds Linnaeus of his previous requests that Linnaeus should recommend him to Johann Jacob LercheLerche, Johann Jacob
