upSUMMARY

Carl Magnus BlomBlom, Carl Magnus (1737-1815).
Swedish. Studied in Uppsala under
Linnaeus 1755-1763. Provincial physician
in Dalecarlia. Correspondent of
Linnaeus.
writes to Linnaeus about the Spongia he has reported earlier and says that it is most probably Spongia fluviatilis.

There is a reference to Flora Svecica 2nd ed.Linnaeus, Carl Flora Svecica
: exhibens plantas per regnum Sveciae
crescentes, systematice cum differentiis
specierum, synonymis autorum, nominibus
incolarum, solo locorum, usu
oeconomorum, officinalibus
pharmacopaeorum
2nd ed. (Stockholm
1755). Soulsby no. 409.
. Blom discusses in detail why he finds Spongia curious and regrets that he does not have a microscope good enough for investigation of the small “worms” found in the vesicles of the plant.

Blom writes that he had intended to send the worms to Linnaeus, but as they seem to be developing further he would like to keep them.

Blom describes the “worms” in detail.

Blom asks Linnaeus to send him more information about Spongia and where to find it in Linnaeus’ System and if the worms he sent Linnaeus are of the same kind.

Concerning the Ulva that Blom sent to Linnaeus, Blom writes that it must be an Ulva granulata . Blom continues to describe the Ulva in detail.
