will be ready next month. Linnaeus owes much to Nicolaus Joseph von JacquinJacquin, Nicolaus Joseph, baron von
(1727-1817). Dutch. Botanist. In
1755 at the order of emperor Franz I of
Austria he went to the Antilles and
South America. In 1763 he became
professor of mineralogy and chemistry at
Chemnitz, later professor of botany at
Vienna and director of the botanical
garden at Schönbrunn. Correspondent

so Jacquin should advise Linnaeus on a proper way to send him a copy. Especially, Jacquin will see that Linnaeus has introduced information from Jacquin on birds in that volume. Part 2, on plants, will soon be printed (“Regnum Vegetabile”, was published later in 1767) with 40 new genera and 500 species, and some known through Jacquin, which had not been included in Species plantarumLinnaeus, Carl Species
plantarum
(Stockholm 1762-1763).
