För acterne och penningen öfwer sal[ig] Grill aflägger jag wördsam tacksäjelse; så snart jag får wetta dess pris will jag gierna det betala.

Jag bör ock ärkiänna den omsorg K[ongliga] Akademien drager för mine rå beskrifningar att dem så hederligen pryda med Bufons förträffliga wärk. jag får inte det förtryta ty sedan jag gifwit från mig m[anuscripta], är det mera icke mitt, och då jag lagt ut på hafwet måste jag åtnöja mig med hwad wind som blåser, ty jag hade bort betänka sådant för än jag hyssade ankar ; men wähl lära mig till en annor gång. Men detta med skiämt.

Linnaeus is grateful for the care the Academy bestows on his descriptions [see Linnaeus to the Academy and Wargentin,8 March 1768Letter L4057] and that it even wants to adorn them with Jean-Louis Leclerc, comte de Buffon’sBuffon, Jean-Louis Leclerc, comte de
(1707-1788). French.
“splendid work”. However, after delivering his manuscripts he is no more the owner of them and has to accept with that. He has learnt his lesson.

Linnaeus has heard that the Norwegian bishop [Nicolaus Christian FriisFriis, Nicolaus Christian
(1714-1777). Norwegian. Vicar of

] was elected member of the Academy. He hopes that they truly know hin.
