who had studied botany and natural history under Linnaeus at the University of Uppsala. Jörlin is now applying for an appointment as Docent in Botany at the University of Lund.

Linnaeus assures Hjärne that nobody has greater interest in science than Jörlin, who has travelled on two occasions to foreign parts to study science, and would have also travelled to the Cape of Good Hope from Holland if the journey had not been cancelled. Linnaeus is of the opinion that Jörlin has greater knowledge of science than any of the other applicants.
