upSUMMARY

During the summer holidays Linnaeus has amused himself with organising his little herb collection. His herbs from the Cape of Good Hope have amused him most.

He has tried the hardest with his 63 species of Ericis, 13 of which are European. He wants Petter Jonas BergiusBergius, Petter Jonas
(1730-1790). Swedish. Physician and
botanist. Professor of natural history
and pharmacy at Collegium Medicum,
Stockholm. Linnaeusís student.

to characterise 7 specified species, as he is inclined to write a small thesis about them. [That was published the following year, Dissertationem botanicam de EricaLinnaeus, Carl Dissertationem

]. He encloses a slip of paper with the species of which he wants Bergiusís description. The slip has about 35 species specified including the seven he wants described.

Linnaeus begs of Bergius to keep the slip, so that Linnaeus can cast a quick eye on it.
