Dated 10 Jan: 1770. Sent from Skänninge (Sweden) to (). Written in Swedish.

upSUMMARY

Anders Johan von HöpkenHöpken, Anders Johan von
(1712-1789). Swedish. Count and
statesman. One of the founders of the
Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.The
Chancellor of the Uppsala University
1760-1764. Correspondent of Linnaeus.
wishes Linnaeus success in the present year and in those to follow. Höpken praises Linnaeus and is grateful for his friendship, however now that he no longer can be of use to the Kingdom and realises that he belongs to the last century, he is worried that the world around him is degenerating rapidly, with new people and new ways of thinking. Höpken wishes them luck, but without the sciences they will never achieve it. He fears for an era of barbarism and fanaticism.

Höpken wants to hear from Linnaeus more often than once a year.
