Wälborne Herr Archiater och Riddare af Kongl Nordstierneorden.

Under mitt wistande i Versailles har Konungen af Frankriket flere gånger frågat mig efter Herr Archiatern, och utom den wälwillja han för Herr Archiaterns person yttrat, äfwen med mycken omsorg underrättat sig om tillståndet af Herr Archiaterns botaniska trägård.

Hans Maij[est]e[t] har sielf samlat fröen, dem han welat låta Herr Archiatern tillkomma, om, som dess egen utlåtelse war, jag trodde att sådant skulle giöra Herr Archiatern nöje: och som jag beswarat detta med betygande af Herr Archiaterns diupa erkänsla för denna grace, så har Konungen updragit mig, att Herr Archiatern desamma tillsända. Till undwikande af en dryg postporto skickar jag pacquetet, som innehåller dessa fröen med de ordinaire Post-wagnarne härifrån till Hamburg, under addresse till Post Commissarien Ahlström, hwilcken jag anmodar att detsamma med posten till Swerige bortskaffa.

Emedlertid följer härjemte en upsats öfwer mer anwända fröen. Marquis de Noailles, hwilken som Herr Archiatern wet, har en stor trägård, har äfwenledes bedt mig försäkra Herr Archiatern, att om någon ting till dess tienst kunde af honom åstadkommas, skulle han räkna sådant för en stor fägnad.

reports that the King of France [Louis XVLouis XV, (1710-1774).

] has often asked him about Linnaeus and also asked about the state of the Uppsala University Botanical GardenLinnéträdgården,
Swedish. The Uppsala University
Botanical Garden was founded by Olof
Rudbeck the Elder in 1655.

The King has collected seeds, which he has intended for Linnaeus, and he had asked Scheffer if it would please Linnaeus to receive them. When Scheffer had replied that Linnaeus would be very grateful for this gracious action, the King had asked Scheffer to take care of the sending of the seeds. To avoid heavy postage fees, Scheffer has sent the package by the ordinary mail to AhlströmAhlström, Swedish. in Hamburg with orders that it shall be sent on by the mail to Sweden.

Scheffer has enclosed a treatise about the more common seeds. Marquis de Noailles [Scheffer means Louis duc de NoaillesNoailles, Louis, duc de

], who owns a large garden as Linnaeus knows, has also asked Scheffer to assure Linnaeus that the marquis would find great pleasure in being able to serve Linnaeus in some way.
