Nicolaus Joseph von JacquinJacquin, Nicolaus Joseph, baron von
(1727-1817). Dutch. Botanist. In
1755 at the order of emperor Franz I of
Austria he went to the Antilles and
South America. In 1763 he became
professor of mineralogy and chemistry at
Chemnitz, later professor of botany at
Vienna and director of the botanical
garden at Schönbrunn. Correspondent
of Linnaeus.
expresses thanks for Linnaeus’s answer of 27 November 1771Letter L4569 to the questions asked in the previous letter.

Jacquin makes final comments on a few of the plates and reports on his decisions. The mushroom has got the name Lycoperdon cancellatum.

Since some changes have been made to Jacquin’s numbering of plates and species, the rest of the letter consists of two lists of species with the number of the plates in Hortus botanicus VindobonensisJacquin, Nicolaus Joseph, baron von
