Dated Idibus Maji An: 1772. Sent from Bologna (Italia) to Uppsala (Sweden). Written in Latin.

upSUMMARY

Ferdinando BassiBassi, Ferdinando
(c.1710-1774). Italian. Director of the
botanical garden of Bologna.
Correspondent of Linnaeus.
sends Linnaeus flowers of Crassula portulacaria, and adds some practical information. The plant grows in a small pot, although it becomes more than three feet high. Bassi does not water it in the winter, when it is kept in a cold greenhouse, and then it is placed outdoors from May to October. Bassi is not quite sure that the plant is really a Crassula, since the number of pistils is not right. Bassi has never got seeds, since the flowers usually fall off very early.

Bassi mentions six species of plants and asks Linnaeus to send him seeds of them in the next autumn, if he can get any.

As soon as possible, Bassi will take the waters at a spa to try to get his right arm in a better shape. In other respects he has recovered.
