upSUMMARY

Linnaeus thanks Abraham BäckBäck, Abraham (1713-1795).
Swedish. Physician, president of the
Collegium Medicum, Stockholm. Close
friend of Linnaeus. Correspondent of
Linnaeus.
for the loan of the plants from the Cape. He has written names of most of them. The Ixiae have not got names. They are so numerous that Linnaeus has to examine them again.

Linnaeus has kept two of them, one grass and one herb, since Linnaeus did not have them in his collection. Bäck’s son [Carl Abraham BäckBäck, Carl Abraham
(1760-1776). Swedish. Son of Anna
Charlotta and Abraham Bäck.
]may not need them. If he wants them, Linnaeus will return them.

Instead, Linnaeus has added several plants from the same region – he mentions twenty – and also a Zamia that he had recently received from the governor of Florida. This is a strange species which has been considered a Palma.
