Dated 7 Augusti 1774. Sent from Lund (Sweden) to Uppsala (Sweden). Written in Swedish.

And[ers] Jah[an] Retzius.

upSUMMARY

Anders Jahan RetziusRetzius, Anders Jahan
(1742-1821). Swedish. Botanist and
zoologist. Professor of natural history
at Lund. Correspondent of Linnaeus.
writes to Linnaeus to tell him that he visited Landskrona two days ago in order to buy seeds from Atriplex pedunculata and he hopes that his agent will provide him with seeds so he can send some of them to Linnaeus.

He is enclosing a twig of Moluccella. He guessed that it might be Prasium minus but defect fruit and fallen leaves have made him doubtful.

As he has both plants of Lunariae in his garden he hopes to be able to study them more closely next year.

He writes that Celsia coromandeliana Rottbölli is flowering and he thinks that it is a Celsia Arcturus and refers to Systema naturae, 13th editionLinnaeus, Carl Systema

. He discusses the description in Mantissa [Retzius refers to Mantissa plantarumLinnaeus, Carl Mantissa

], although it is not mentioned there by Rottböll.

Conyza Anthelminthica, if Retzius is not mistaken, is also flowering. If Linnaeus wishes, retzius is prepared to sen him an more thorough description. If Linnaeus wishes, he will describe it more closely.

The book by Rottböll Linnaeus has asked about [Retzius refers to Descriptiones plantarum rariorum iconibus illustrandas : cum earum, quae primo proximeque prodituro fasciculo continebuntur, elencho, programmate] only describes grass and only Genera Restionis, Chondrophetali, Kyllingiae, Cyperi, Scirpi and Schoeni. Rottböll is suffering severely from melancholia and it will take a long time before “Rolander’s Surinamensia” is published [Retzius refers to the forthcoming work by Rottböll, where he published the descriptions of plants from Suriname, collected by Daniel RolanderRolander, Daniel (1725-1793).
