Dated d:8:decembris 1778.. Sent from Roma (Italia) to Uppsala (Sweden). Written in Latin.

upSUMMARY

Michelangelo ComiComi, Michelangelo (?-?).
Italian. Priest, Rome. Correspondent of
Linnaeus.
, still a young man without very much training in natural history, has studied Systema naturae [Comi refers presumably to the Systema naturae, 12th editionLinnaeus, Carl Systema
naturae
, 12th edition (Stockholm
1766-1768). Soulsby no. 62.
] and uses it to define and distinguish the different species and their properties. He thinks the system is very clear and easy to follow and to remember.

There is however one thing that Comi does not understand, and that is why Linnaeus has placed species without the ability to think, to talk and to reason among the primates. Comi thinks that Man should be alone in that category and not share it with various kinds of apes and monkeys.
