Ädle och Höglärde Herr Archiator

Efter begiäran följer här innelykt tilbakars upsatsen på H[errar] Directeurerne uti OstIndiska Compagniet, hwilken wi nummereradt efter den rang som vi finna at de efter sin caractere böra hafwa, så at H[err] Sahlgren, som ei hafwer annan caractere än den af Directeur wid Compagniet, lärer komma at stå uti fierde Rummet, fastän han är äldre Directeur än både H[err] Lagerström och H[err] Abraham Grill. Wi förmoda at wi härutinnan träffat uppå H[err] Archiatorns mening, men skulle någon widare underrättelse åstundas, så äro wi altid til tienst.

Innelyckte bref af Sahl[ig] H[err] Doctor Hasselquist är under wårt Couvert hitkommit med en Skieppare som nyligen hitkommit ifrån Smirna, med hwilken också bem[äl]te H[err] Hasselquist i lifstiden warande, til H[err] Archiatorn sändt 12 stycken lefwande Landsköldpaddor, hwaraf några blifwit döda på wägen, men ännu några lefwa, hwilka wi skola af Skiepparen emottaga och bewara, tils H[err] Archiatorn täckes förordna om deras öfwerförande.

Chyrus Winet är också ankommit, för hwilket wi skola utbetala Tullen och andra omkostningar, och förwänta H[err] Archiatorns swar, huru wi oss widare därmed skola skicka.

Jag är Herr Archiatoren högeligen förbunden för den ähran som mig i går aftons bewiste med Invitation at komma hoos sig, men som hästarne wore förre spende, och min resa presserade för angelegne Süsslor her hemma, så kunde jag ey hafwa den ähran, som gunstigast bedes at Excusera, om H[err] Hasselquist sendt mera med Smirna tecktes låta weta at det af Skiepparen kunna fordra.

and Iggesund. Director of the Swedish
East India Company. Also known as an art
collector and patron of arts and
sciences. Brother of Anthoni Grill and
Johan Abraham Grill. Correspondent of
Linnaeus.
to send him a list of the directors of the East India Company, which has now been sent to him, with the directors listed according to the ranking Grill considers they should have on the basis of their personalities [Linnaeus to Grill, 3 June 1752Letter L1419]. Thus, Nicolaus SahlgrenSahlgren, Nicolaus (1701-1776).

. In this way, Claes Grill hopes that he has succeeded in presenting the directors in the way Linnaeus had requested.

Grill continues, saying that the enclosed letter from Fredrik HasselquistHasselquist, Fredrik
(1722-1752). Swedish. Physician and
naturalist, explorer. Studied under
Linnaeus and Lars Roberg 1741-1749. Went
to Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Cyprus,
Rhodes and the island of Chios. Died
near Smyrna. Son of Magnus and Helena
Maria Hasselquist, brother of Andreas
Hasselquist. Correspondent of Linnaeus.
[see Hasselquist to Linnaeus, 31 December 1751Letter L1345] had come to them with a vessel recently arrived from Smirna, together with 12 turtles, of which some had died during the voyage. The captain of the vessel had requested Grill to care for the animals until further arrangements could be made for them.

Linnaeus is also informed that the Chyrus wine had also arrived, for which Grill would pay customs duties and other expenses. Grill awaited Linnaeusís instructions on where the wine should be sent.

The letter is signed by both CarlosGrill, Carlos (1681-1736).

P.S. Claes Grill thanks Linnaeus for the honour of being invited to visit him the previous evening but makes suitable excuses as to why he had been unable to attend. Grill also mentions that if Hasselquist wishes to send more from Smirna, Linnaeus should inform the Captain as to what he should charge.
